HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR OPTION SUBJECTS FOR YEAR 10, 2019

TIMETABLE – YEAR 10

Your timetable will be made up as follows:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Physical Education & Health
  • Option 1
  • Option 2
  • Option 3

Each subject, including options, is timetabled for 3 teaching spells per week.

Please select FOUR options from those listed on Schoolpoint - one from each line (the fourth option is a reserve option in case classes are too full).

As part of the subject choice process, some students may be interviewed by the dean or other teachers. Parents may also be requested to attend an interview to discuss choices that have been made.

Languages should not be selected unless you have taken them in Year 9. You would need permission from the HOD Languages if you have not previously studied a particular language.

ART, DRAMA, MUSIC and TECHNOLOGY were compulsory in Year 9 but become options in Year 10.  There are also new subjects offered in Year 10 that were not taught in Year 9.  If you have questions about these subjects, you should seek advice from the person listed on the following page.

In most courses in this booklet, staff have tried to indicate what course costs could be involved with each course.  These are not yet fixed for 2018 and some are unknown at the time of printing.

As you make choices for Year 10, read the course outlines in the following pages and talk to teachers and senior students who can help you make good decisions about your option choices for 2019.

Complete the Year 10 Option Selection Sheet which must be signed by your parent/caregiver and returned to school on or before FRIDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER.  This is a very short time frame to return your forms. Popular subjects are likely to fill up quickly and it may not always be possible to offer multiple classes of some subjects. Some subjects will have more than one class – all class options and staffing are decided on by the Principal.

Note that many Year 11 subjects REQUIRE you to take the subject in Year 10. These subjects are marked with an * above. Sometimes this can be negotiated and you may be offered an audition if you have not taken a subject in Year 10 and want to take it in Year 11.  This is not a guarantee, however. If you are unsure contact the people listed above.
