Social Justice (2)

SSCSO1
Course Description

This course is a semester long and will be offered in both semester 1 and 2.

The Big Question:  Why are equity, equality and justice necessary?

What it means to be a good person? This will be explored as well as how we can make real change in the world. We will look at moral dilemmas, the concepts of human rights and social justice. We will think about how these ideas affect the world around us and how we can be active global citizens by seeking social justice and change for the better. We will explore these ideas by studying some Aotearoa New Zealand historical events and movements including the suffragettes, the Dawn Raids, Parihaka, activism (Te Reo Māori, disability rights), and others that the class is keen to learn about!
