Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

Successful completion of Level 1 and or Level 2 Hospitality is an advantage, including evidence of effort and attainment, positive behaviour and attendance records. A course application and interview process will be undertaken to determine suitable applicants due to the unique nature of the course.



PURPOSE: This is a full time Unit Standard based course aimed at preparing students for direct entry into the Hospitality Industry or further studies whilst achieving a New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality Basic Cookery Level 3 and helping run the school cafe and catering business.

COURSE OUTLINE: A wide range of practical cookery techniques and methods, knife skills, food safety, customer service, workplace safety, coffee and barista training.  Upon successful completion of the course students will be awarded a New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality Basic Cookery Level 3. 

ASSESSMENT INFORMATION: The full list of standards assessed can be requested from Miss Leith however there are a minimum of 60 Level 3 credits in addition to compulsory and optional Level 2 and 3 credits. Individual circumstances will be considered and can be discussed with Miss Leith upon application to the SOH. Students will be expected to complete a trial in the cafe by arrangement with Miss Leith.
