Course Description

All standards are internally assessed Unit Standards.  These credits will contribute to the 80 credits needed for NCEA Level 1 and the 60 Credits needed for NCEA Levels 2 and 3.  None of the credits will contribute to Literacy, Numeracy or University Entrance requirements. 


What is this course about?            

  • Helping you plan your future employment and/or educational pathway.

  • Giving you the opportunity to develop skills to start travelling down that pathway.

  • Giving you work experience/placements in a supportive work environment or Tertiary College of your choice.

  • Providing resources to assist you to succeed in that chosen workplace – all costs related to the placement including special clothing, equipment and travel will be paid for by school.

  • Providing the opportunity to build a bank of credits and/or micro-credential towards NCEA.

Where does this course lead?

This course can lead to employment, industry training and tertiary courses (Polytech, Training organisations etc).  


GATEWAY

Some students on the Pathways course may enrol in Gateway.  As a Gateway student you will do a minimum of 10 days work experience at a workplace of interest to you.  Many students do one day per week at the workplace for the most of the year.

Students will complete unit standards that relate to their work placement.  Gateway provides you with opportunities to develop knowledge and skills required for future employment or training in your chosen pathway.

TRADES ACADEMY

There are a wide range of trades academies available.  You will be based at a tertiary college and will gain a qualification in an area of interest.  You will be at ‘trades’ one or two days per week for the whole year.  You will be on a Level 2 NCEA or Level 3 NCEA trades academy depending on your interests and previous experience.  Different trades academies offer different number of credits.  The minimum would be approximately 20 and the maximum approximately 50.  Most trades academies are 2 days per week offering on average 40 credits.
