Level 3 Digital Technologies

DIGI303
Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs R. Leota.

Recommended Prior Learning

Level 2 Digital Technologies. Students who have not completed Level 2 Digital Technologies may be considered at the discretion of the Head of Department, Digi and Design Tech. However, they will struggle and need to be self-directed learners.

PURPOSE: In doing this course, the students take on the role of a Technologist. They follow the Technology Process to research and develop solutions to meet the brief and specifications. This course focuses on product design and development. The students will further develop their problem solving skills by using technologies to answer their own questions. They will develop workplace inter-personal skills by working with a client and stakeholders to create a conceptual design, prototype and one-off digital solution.

COURSE OUTLINE: This course involves the students expanding on their skills gained in earlier Digital Technologies courses and exploring their interests through a year-long project. In this project the students will determine their own client and create a product to meet an identified need. They will work within a context. This is where students will get an opportunity to explore paths they are interested in and do self-directed learning. This project (if successful) will give the students University Entrance in this subject. This project is broken up into sections as it is made up of three different Achievement Standards, worth a total of 16 credits. All three standards must be achieved if the student is to gain University Entrance.
