Level 3 Maori and Pasifika Voices in English

Course Description

Teacher in Charge:

PURPOSE: How do we share our voices and hear the voices of others?

To develop awareness of the representation of Māori in literature and in society. Students will further develop their understanding of a Māori world view.
I tēnei akoranga ka whakawhanui i o koutou titiro ki ngā kanohi kitea Māori i roto i ngā tuhinga me ngā hapori hoki. Ka whakawhanake tou māramatanga o te tiro a-Māori ki tona ake ao.

COURSE OUTLINE: The structure of your learning will include many opportunities for group work and collaboration. You will learn with others by listening to other people’s ideas and talking about your own views and identity. You will look at the stories, poetry, oratory and film of Māori authors and of relevant non-Māori authors. You do not have to be Māori to take this course, but you need to have an interest in Māori voices and issues. If you want to use Pasifika content for any of your learning or your assessments, you are most welcome to do so.
