Course for Force! (2)

Course Description

Big Question: What makes the universe tick?

This course gets students to investigate the worlds of forces, energy, electricity and magnetism. The course begins with an introduction to motion including experiments on speed and acceleration. It then moves onto forces and how they affect our lives in many ways. Students will design and build simple structures and test their designs out. Students will learn the names of common forces and learn how to draw force diagrams. The course then moves on to cover ideas about friction with a range of simple experiments. We then look at aerodynamics including a kite-making project.

Then students learn about energy including different types and uses. We investigate how we can learn from nature to help us design better machines. We use our understanding of forces and energy to design a solution to the Egg Drop challenge.

The next stage of the course will cover fundamental ideas about electricity and magnetism, where students will  investigate these topics by making circuits, speakers  and motors.
