Level 1 Music
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms M. Brownlie.
PURPOSE: This course is designed to introduce students to a serious study of Music and focuses on building confident, knowledge and technique.
COURSE OUTLINE: This course will be individually tailored to students’ strengths and interests. The aspects covered in the course include Performance (solo and/or group), Composition, Music Studies and Music Skills. Students will select, in consultation with the HOL, a course of 15-20 credits (3-4 standards).
This is a mixed level class. Students will focus on the standards specific to their year level but will have the opportunity to extend themselves by working with students from other year levels.
Recommended Prior Learning
• At least two years of prior tuition on an instrument or voice (or be at the equivalent level of competency) and completion of at least two junior semester courses (or the full year course). Entry by audition can be negotiated with HOL Performing Arts if a student has not met these requirements.
• Students need to be prepared to consistently attend music tuition either through the itinerant music scheme or through a private tutor.
• Students must be prepared to participate in a co-curricular musical activity.
• Students must have access to their own instrument for this course.
*ASSESSMENT INFORMATION:* Students will not complete all of the standards below but rather will choose standards to create their own course of 15-20 credits.
