SSCCA1

Conflict and Resolution (1)

Course Description

Why Study History?

This course is a semester long and will be offered in both semester 1 and 2.

The Big Question:  Is conflict necessary? and how does conflict shape us as individuals and as a society?

The War in the Ukraine is a starting point and there are many other examples of conflict from the past that can be investigated. World War One and Two, The Vietnam War, Afghanistan, Iraq, The Middle East all enable us to find out what caused them and how they ended or were resolved.  The Musket Wars, Northern Wars and other 19th century Wars in Taranaki and the Waikato as well as  many other conflicts during the colonisation of Aotearoa will be investigated. Of interest will be the repercussions or consequences of these wars and resulting changes to society.
