SSCSO1

Social Justice (1)

Course Description

This course is a semester long and will be offered in both semester 1 and 2.

The Big Question:  Why are equity, equality and justice necessary for society?

During this course we will look at what it means to be a good person and how we can make real change in the world. We will look at moral dilemmas, the concepts of human rights and social justice. We will then think about how these ideas affect the world around us and how we can be active global citizens by seeking social justice and change for the better. We will learn about these ideas by studying Aotearoa New Zealand historical events and movements including the suffragettes, the Dawn Raids, Parihaka, activism (Te Reo Māori, disability rights), and others that the class is keen to learn about!
