Stop Motion (2)

Course Description

This course teaches students about stop motion animation. Students will follow the Tech Process to plan, prepare and create their own short films in groups for a target audience.

Stop motion is a form of animation technique that involves capturing a series of still images and then playing them in sequence at a fast pace to create the illusion of movement. It is also known as stop-motion animation or stop-frame animation. In this method, physical objects are manipulated and moved in small increments between each frame of the animation.

Stop motion animation can be achieved using various techniques, such as claymation (using clay figures), puppet animation (using physical puppets), object animation (using everyday objects), and more. It is a time-consuming process, but it offers a unique and charming visual style that has been used in various films, TV shows, commercials, and online content. Notable examples of stop motion animation include "Wallace and Gromit" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas”.

Students will use an inquiry-style focus where they will plan and determine appropriate techniques based on their interests and access to resources.

Big Question: Why is an old technique still used today for filmmaking?
